Georganne Chapin has been working in, writing about, and speaking out on the American health care system for 25 years, 20 of those as president and CEO of Hudson Health Plan, one of the highest-rated not-for-profit managed care organizations in New York State. This insider status gives her a unique perspective on health, health insurance and health care. Her experience has served to confirm her belief in a universal single-payer system.
In 2005, Ms. Chapin founded the Hudson Center for Health Equity & Quality (the Hudson Center), dedicated to improving the accessibility and quality of health care through clinical and administrative streamlining. The Hudson Center created the first field software for enrolling clients in Medicaid programs in New York State, a process that previously had been paper and red tape intensive. FEEA (Facilitated Enrollment Electronic Application), which cuts the enrollment time for individuals and families by two-thirds, is now being used by organizations in New York City and statewide.
In 2008, when anti-circumcision activists created the not-for-profit organization Intact America, Georganne was named as its executive director. Intact America works to protect babies and children from circumcision and all other forms of medically unnecessary genital alteration, whether carried out for cultural conformity or profit, in medical or non-medical settings.
Ms. Chapin holds a BA in anthropology from Barnard College, an MPhil in sociomedical sciences from Columbia University, and a JD from Pace University School of Law.
